Founded by Richard Salter in 1760 he invented the worlds first spring scale in 1770. Spring scales are still used today. Before that counter weights were used to calculate weight.

Their springs were so good that their valve springs were used in the first steam engines and in Spitfire engines during WW2. They also produced the UK's first bathroom scales and typewriter.
